Why We Developed Organ Donor AwarenessIn November 2006, Kevin, 31 yrs old, was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. Members of the immediate family became involved in learning about kidney failure and the need for organ donation in the US. Al Al, a relative, began a crusade of providing friends and other relatives with this information, in the hopes of finding a kidney donor. Al was a match, but was temporarily disqualified as a kidney donor at that time. Joan Joan, Kevin's mother, was the first volunteer as a donor. Although she was a match, she was temporarily disqualified as a kidney donor at that time. Joan has coordinated Organ Donation Awareness Acitivities at her place of work. Kevin In spite of this tragedy, Kevin desired to bring good out of it, by spreading the word about the need for organ donation, and by supporting others in support groups. Kevin is currently on a waiting list for a kidney transplant. Note: On June 22, 2010, Kevin received a kidney transplant from a deceased organ donor. Teresa Teresa, also a relative and a website developer, volunteered to develop the website in September 2007, in cooperation with Al, Kevin and Joan.
Our Goal Our immediate goal is to provide information, encouragement and support. Our Future We plan to develop this website so that people can share their stories and participate. We would also like to promote the site and the store. Fundraising We do have a CafePress Store - www.cafepress.com/organdonoraware - where we sell things like bumper stickers, to promote organ donor awareness. We only charge a few dollars above cost, to make the items affordable. So far, the proceeds have been used to pay for the cost of the store. It is our goal to donate any excess money to Donate Life America - www.donatelife.net Donate Online to Donate Life You can make a contribution online: www.donatelife.net/HowYouCanHelp/FinancialContribution.php Contact Us admin@organdonorawareness.org |
